Linen scrapbook, [ca. 1885-1895].

This rare, multi-colored linen scrapbook contains several hundred examples of Victorian era chromolithographic cutouts, greeting cards, and trade cards, some of which are embossed. There is no apparent arrangement to the album, but it includes pictures of birds, women, flowers, hats, children, musical instruments, women's bathing suits, African Americans, animals, Christmas cards, New Years cards, and trade cards. Trade cards for J.L. Isaacs Wallpaper, Trorlicht & Dunker Carpets and Curtains, and Blanke & Bros. Candy, all of St. Louis, MO are featured. Other notable trade cards are for H.J. Heinz foods, Krakauer Bros. of New York, and Goodyear Rubber Co. of Milwaukee, WI. Lithographers represented include Stevens Lithography and Engraving of St. Louis, Raphael Tuck & Sons, and. Sunshine Publishing of Philadelphia.

Henry John Heinz, a pioneer in the food processing industry, established Heinz, Noble & Co. in 1869 with partner L. Clarence Noble to make and sell processed foods. Horseradish was the company's first product of a quickly expanding line. Financial difficulties forced company bankruptcy in 1875.
